Sunday morning was one of my all time favorite church services.
God showed up and the 1 lesson HE taught the church ~ will never be forgotten by anyone there.
Our little church has proven to be a safe haven for small children and many of them are foster kids.
I encourage them to stay in the service and to “let the kids be kids”.
Sunday morning we were blessed with a good bunch of preschool kiddos.
I loved it.
We sang a few songs and one of the little girls came up on the stage and “helped” me.
When I started preaching ~ the same little girl came up to me and wanted to sit on my lap.
So I sat on a stool and picked her up.
She sat there perfectly quiet and listened as I preached.
Suddenly I remembered the words of Jesus, “Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children”. (Matthew 19:14 NLT)
There is a wonderful tender spot in the heart of God for children.
For me personally ~ sitting with a child on my lap ~ as I taught God’s Word ~ was a high honor.
I got to teach God’s Truth ~ the same way Jesus did ~ with a child on HIS knee.
That honor humbled me as I realized that this child is loved beyond measure by God Himself ~ and I had a moment to hold that child ~ provide that child a safe harbor ~ where she could experience personally what love and respect looks like.
That is a good day.
Maybe ~ just maybe ~ every pastor should have the honor of preaching with a child on his knee ~ as a reminder of what is eternally important.
And again I pass along wisdom I gleaned from my father, “Shane, if you preach so the little kids can understand it ~ chances are ~ some of the adults will understand it too”.
I’m praying for you
Pastor Shane
